2009 APSP Region 3 Volunteer of
the Year
Mr. Patrick Walsh
The success of our region is largely dependent upon the generous
donation of time and talent performed by our volunteers. APSP Region 3 has
established its Volunteer of the Year Award to annually honor one outstanding
volunteer who has made a significant impact within the region. Recipients of
the Region 3 Volunteer of the Year Award have demonstrated exemplary
leadership, consistency, willingness, reliability and spirit.
It is with great honor, that we present the 2009 Volunteer
Leadership Award to Mr. Patrick Walsh.
Pat has been in the industry for 30 years. He started his
company, The Above Ground Pool and Spa Company, in San Antonio in 1995 and in
the same year, became a member of APSP/NSPI.
He has served as the APSP South Texas Chapter President since
1999. As chapter president, he continues to spearhead the production of the
very successful San Antonio Express Annual Pool Guide newspaper supplement,
highlighting the benefits of pool ownership to the
community-at-large.
Pat also serves on the APSP Region 3 Regional Advisory Council and
also serves on the APEC board of directors.
During this past year, Pat has been an exceptional advocate for
the industry. Seeing the need for an Austin area chapter, he and Paul
Walter were responsible for assembling the Austin area members together
to form the new APSP Austin chapter, which now Butch Millen, Craig Johnson, Rik
Holberg and Brett Abbott are now officers.
Pat and Paul were also instrumental in bringing IPSSA Region 9
officers and APSP Region 3 chapter presidents together to jointly manage the
all new Southwest Pool and Spa Show. Pat has done an outstanding job this
past year as Secretary/Treasurer of this non-profit organization.
